Leaking

Cause:
Leaking often occurs during the early weeks when the baby is nursing at irregular times. It may take 6-12 weeks for you baby to obtain a regular feeding schedule. Until that time, your milk supply will continue to change. Although leaking is normal, it may not occur in every mother. However, leaking can occur when you think about your baby, when you hear your baby or another baby cry, when you delay or miss a feeding and your breast overfill or when you are making love and have an orgasm.

Recommended Treatment:
  • To control leaking, press firmly against the nipple or each breast with the palm of your hand or your wrist or fold your arms tightly across your chest.
  • Nursing pads proved short-term protection and come in all shapes and sizes, disposable as well as reusable. You can even make your own pads using cloth diapers, cotton fabric or men's handkerchiefs. Change pads frequently. Do not use pads with waterproof liners.
